これからどうなるのか？　やっぱり何かが起こるのか？
そう、ハラハラしながらページをめくり続ける。
ある種の写真集は、最後に決定的な何かが起こる。
しかし、写真集『マリイ』は、何も起こらない。
マリイは、現に、生きている。
いや、やはり何かが起こっていたに違いないと、
またページをめくり返してしまう。
写真集が表現しうるパースの奥行きがこれほどまである作品も珍しい。
不穏な空気は、やがてあふれんばかりの愛に変わり、
近年で、最高によかった一冊です。

This photobook disquiets me constantly.
What’s happening? － or nothing’s happening?
What’s going to happen? － something’s going to happen just as I think?
I continue to turn its pages uneasily.
In some kind of photobook, something fatal happens at last.
However, nothing happens in this photobook MARII.
Even though Marii is actually alive herself,
I can’t help turning its pages again,
because I think that something should have happened to her.
This work shows the perspective surprisingly better than other photobooks.
The disquiet turns soon into lots of love,
and for me, it’s the best photobook in recent years.
